Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has declared that he joined politics to serve the people and not for personal enrichment, as he called on Nigerians to reject the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Saturday during a youth mobilisation event in Sokoto State organised by the emerging opposition coalition, El-Rufai expressed strong disapproval of the APC’s continued stay in power, describing the party as “incompetent and clannish.”
He warned that allowing the APC to retain control beyond 2027 would pose a serious threat to national unity, adding that the current government no longer serves the interest of the Nigerian people.

“I didn’t get into politics to enrich myself but to serve,” El-Rufai stated. “And when a government ceases to serve the people, it is my duty as a senior citizen to not only speak out but take action to reverse the situation.”
The former governor, who is now a prominent figure in the newly formed opposition alliance, reiterated his support for the coalition’s decision to adopt the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform. He said the move was aimed at building a united front capable of unseating the APC in the next election cycle.
He also charged Nigerian youths to rise above ethnic and religious sentiments and rally behind the movement to reclaim the country from misgovernance and hardship.
“The future of Nigeria lies in your hands. We must unite to rebuild a nation where competence, justice, and equity prevail,” he said.
The opposition coalition, which includes politicians, civil society actors, and youth groups, is intensifying efforts across the country to challenge the dominance of the APC, with more high-profile figures expected to join its ranks in the coming months.
