The presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Seyi Makinde, has expressed confidence that his party will win the 2027 general elections by a wide margin, declaring Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed as Nigeria’s next Senate President.
Makinde made the remarks on Thursday during the APM South-West town hall meeting in Akure, the Ondo State capital, where he presented the party’s agenda for the country.

The Oyo State governor made the declaration after Mohammed was introduced at the event as the governor of Bauchi State and an incoming senator.
Responding to the introduction, Makinde said the party was confident of winning the forthcoming election, describing its proposed programme as an agenda to reset Nigeria.
“Well, APM is going to win this election overwhelmingly because this is the reset agenda being put before Nigerians, so I dare to say that my national leader is the incoming Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.
Makinde urged party members and supporters to begin working towards actualising the party’s ambition, adding that the South-West was central to his political campaign.
He also challenged Nigerians to assess presidential candidates based on their energy and ability to cope with the demands of leadership rather than focusing exclusively on age.
“While I will not make age an issue in this campaign, I will make energy, having energy, being able to stay up late to deal with the challenges we face as a country,” he said.
He further challenged rival presidential candidates to demonstrate their physical fitness, suggesting that Nigerians should consider their stamina when assessing their suitability for the presidency.
“So please, when they bring their presidential candidates, let the candidates be able to jump, and if they can do that, vote for them,” Makinde added.
At the meeting, Makinde also outlined his broader vision for national development under the APM’s Reset Nigeria agenda, which identifies education, the economy, security and sociopolitical empowerment as key priorities.
He called on Nigerians, particularly residents of the South-West, to support his proposed reforms and participate actively in the electoral process.
Mohammed, who is the APM’s national leader, was also among the party figures at the gathering as it intensified preparations for the 2027 elections.
Makinde’s declaration about the Senate presidency represents his political projection for the next administration, with the outcome of the general elections and the subsequent selection of the Senate leadership yet to be determined.
