The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has assured Nigerians that the country will experience better days under its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, following the party’s commitment to reducing fuel prices if elected in 2027.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, gave the assurance while reacting to remarks by its vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, that an NDC-led government would consider all necessary measures, including the possible restoration of fuel subsidy, to bring down the cost of petrol.

Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State, made the position known during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he expressed concern over the high cost of energy and the economic difficulties Nigerians have faced since the removal of petrol subsidy.
He said the party was united on the need to make fuel more affordable, adding that it would explore available options to achieve the objective if Obi wins the 2027 presidential election.
“Our collective position now is that the price of energy in this country is too high,” Kwankwaso said.
He added that the party would do whatever was necessary to reduce fuel prices, including considering subsidy measures.
Reacting in a post on X, Director expressed confidence in Obi’s ability to address the country’s challenges, declaring that Nigerians had reasons to remain hopeful about the future.
“Hope is on the way, President Obi is coming. Nigeria shall be OK. A new Nigeria is possible; we can do it,” he wrote.
The NDC’s position comes amid continuing debate over the removal of petrol subsidy by President Bola Tinubu’s administration in May 2023, a decision that has been followed by significant increases in fuel and transportation costs.
Kwankwaso’s remarks indicate that the party is considering alternative interventions to ease the burden on households and businesses, should it secure victory in the 2027 general election.
