The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced that its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, will nominate key officials of the party’s Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party’s National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas Zuwoghe, disclosed this on Saturday during a press conference at the NDC national secretariat in Abuja.

Zuwoghe said the party had completed the structure and timetable for the campaign council since late August but was awaiting nominations from Obi and Kwankwaso before inaugurating the body.
According to him, the two candidates will nominate officials for strategic positions, including Director-General, Deputy Director-General, campaign spokesperson, Director of Social Media and Financial Controller.
He explained that the arrangement was designed to ensure that the campaign leadership reflected the candidates’ preferences while maintaining coordination with the party’s leadership.
The NDC chairman also announced October 20, 2026, for the inauguration of the Presidential Campaign Council, the presentation of Certificates of Return to the party’s candidates and a strategic dinner involving candidates nationwide.
He added that the party would hold a National Executive Committee meeting on the same day to deliberate on and approve key decisions concerning its preparations for the elections.
Zuwoghe further disclosed that Obi and Kwankwaso would nominate two additional officials who, alongside the party’s national treasurer, would oversee the campaign council’s independent account.
He said the financial arrangement was intended to promote transparency and accountability in the management of campaign funds.
The chairman noted that the party leadership, Obi, Kwankwaso and its national leader, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, supported the process.
He added that the full composition of the campaign council would be announced after the party received the candidates’ recommendations.
The development marks another step in the NDC’s preparations for the 2027 elections, as the party works to establish its campaign structure and coordinate mobilisation efforts across the country.
