A prominent figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peter Obi, has indicated his intention to seek the party’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Obi made this known while addressing supporters at a campaign event for ADC candidates in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections, held at the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).
In his remarks, Obi made it clear that he is aiming for the party’s top position, stressing that he is not interested in playing a subordinate role in the ADC’s long-term political calculations.

He linked the AMAC election to his broader political ambition and urged party members and residents to rally behind the ADC candidate in the council poll.
According to him, victory in the AMAC election would be critical to advancing his political journey, noting that his participation in the coming elections is as a principal contender, not in a supporting capacity.
“This coming election, support us in AMAC; it will help me. Your support in AMAC is critical to our journey. I am involved and contesting the coming election as number one. When I come back, you will see. I assure you,” Obi said.
Obi’s declaration has further energised his supporters, particularly members of the Obidient Movement, who have intensified pressure on the ADC leadership to adopt him as the party’s presidential flag bearer for 2027.
However, the ADC is also home to other notable politicians with presidential ambitions, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, setting the stage for a keenly contested race within the party.
