A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kenneth Okonkwo, has claimed that any vote cast for the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, in the 2027 election would ultimately benefit President Bola Tinubu.
Okonkwo made the assertion during an interview with Symfoni, where he criticised Obi’s political decisions ahead of the 2027 general election.
According to him, a divided opposition would only improve the chances of President Tinubu securing re-election.

“It’s either you are working for Tinubu directly or indirectly because when you divide the votes of the coalition or the opposition, you are still making Tinubu win,” Okonkwo said.
The former presidential spokesperson also faulted Obi’s decision to leave the ADC after initially joining the party.
“Nobody forced Peter Obi to enter the ADC. He entered on his own, and one week to the end of the closure of time, he left and gave reasons. What reason was that?” he queried.
Okonkwo further argued that Obi’s refusal to participate in the party’s primary process raised questions about his readiness to lead the country.
“You cannot compete in primaries and you want to be a president of a challenged country,” he said.
The ADC chieftain maintained that Obi’s participation in the 2027 presidential race could split opposition votes and work in favour of the incumbent administration.
“Let me tell you the truth, in 2027, anybody voting for Peter Obi is voting for Tinubu. Don’t say that I didn’t tell you,” Okonkwo added.
His comments come amid ongoing political realignments and coalition-building efforts among opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general election.
