Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has declared that all major political structures in the state have been collapsed into the All Progressives Congress (APC), setting a clear path for his reelection bid in 2027.
Governor Alia made the assertion during his first-ever media chat held on Thursday in Makurdi, where he confidently stated that his political strength lies with the people, not political elites.
“As we speak, we’ve collapsed every other political establishment into our party,” Alia said. “Will there be small parties trying to emerge? Perhaps.

But for the most part, when I say ‘collapse,’ I mean they see what we are doing, and their concerns are being addressed.”
He acknowledged that while some political elements may attempt to stir opposition due to their waning influence, he remains unfazed, asserting that governance under his leadership is people-driven.
“Will there be political games trying to disrupt things? Yes, because their interests are no longer being catered to. But as a unified body, we shouldn’t be concerned about any discontent,” the governor said.
Addressing his 2023 victory, Governor Alia maintained that his mandate came directly from the people of Benue and not from any political class—a precedent he believes will hold in the next election cycle.
“Certainly, everyone would like to be in my position, but the question is: do they have the capacity? Are they people-oriented?” he asked rhetorically.
He emphasized that the real campaign lies in the visible development strides his administration is undertaking.
“The real strength is with the people, and I’m with the people. Benue people know what we’re doing. They see the work. That’s the real campaign,” Alia asserted.
