Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared his intention to lead President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike made the declaration on Monday while speaking with journalists in Abuja, affirming his loyalty to President Tinubu and his readiness to ensure electoral victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in key regions, including the FCT.
When asked if he would take charge of the APC presidential campaign in 2027, Wike responded affirmatively, referencing his political alignment with President Tinubu and his previous efforts in Rivers State.

“I have told you this before. Is it because I am in Asiwaju’s presidency? Are you not aware I will lead his campaign in Rivers State? You want me to say no?” he said.
He also pointed out the president’s performance in the FCT during the 2023 elections, stressing that the narrative will change in the next election cycle.
“Are you not aware that he didn’t get up to 10 per cent here, FCT? But he will win here. Are you not aware? Stop asking me questions you know. Of course, you know. Is that hidden?” Wike asked.
The former Rivers State governor reaffirmed his long-standing position that the presidency must rotate to the South, a stance he says justifies his support for President Tinubu.
“Because I have said the South must produce the president,” he added.
Wike’s remarks come amid growing political realignments as the race for 2027 gradually takes shape.
His open declaration may further blur the lines between party affiliations, particularly as he remains a prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while serving in an APC-led federal government.
