The Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, recently unveiled exciting developments in the Federal Government’s ongoing 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) program. Notably, this program has garnered significant attention, with over 1 million Nigerians submitting their applications, eagerly seeking to participate.
In a statement released via Infostride News, Dr. Tijani announced that the next steps for these applicants would be unveiled in the next 12 hours. This milestone reflects the strong interest and enthusiasm within the Nigerian population to engage with the 3MTT program, underscoring its importance and potential impact.
Furthermore, the Minister shared valuable insights into the program’s progress by revealing that an impressive 18,644 companies have applied as service providers to support the initiative. This significant involvement from the private sector demonstrates a collective commitment to developing Nigeria’s technical talent pool.
Additionally, the program has received 1,407 applications from potential partners, further emphasizing the widespread interest and collaboration from various stakeholders.
The 3MTT program has garnered substantial support, including a generous N1 billion funding commitment from IHS Telecom. This funding not only bolsters the program’s resources but also encompasses the financial commitment to sustain 37 dedicated learning community managers for each location over the next three years. This support significantly augments the federal government’s overarching goal of training 3 million Nigerians in technical skills within the next four years.
The government has laid out a comprehensive implementation plan, which divides the training into three distinct phases. The first phase is expected to accommodate 30,000 individuals, followed by the second phase admitting 300,000, with the ultimate aim of reaching 3 million in the third phase. This phased approach ensures the program’s scalability while maintaining its effectiveness and impact.
The 3MTT program is a pivotal component of the Renewed Hope agenda, focusing on building Nigeria’s technical talent reservoir to drive the country’s digital economy. This strategic initiative aims to position Nigeria as a net exporter of technical talent, thereby contributing to the nation’s economic growth and global recognition.
In the first phase of the program, executed in collaboration with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), multiple stakeholders will play a crucial role. These stakeholders encompass fellows, training providers, partners, and placement organizations. Together, they form a comprehensive ecosystem to facilitate the successful execution of the program’s objectives.
Dr. Tijani detailed the first phase, explaining that it would identify individuals with an interest in specific skills and fund the cost of their training with selected training providers participating in the program. This approach aligns with the Ministry’s “1%-10%-100%” implementation strategy, aiming to train and place 30,000 technical talents, representing 1% of the program’s overall target. This approach is founded on a framework co-created with key stakeholders from government agencies, training providers, educational institutions, development agencies, and the private sector.
The skills that will be imparted during the first phase are designed to enhance various roles using technology without directly involving tech creation. These include areas like Digital Marketing, Project Management Software, Cloud Platforms Navigation, Data Analysis and Visualization, Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Management, Accounting Software, Graphics Design, and UX/UI Design, among several others.
The program’s comprehensive curriculum ensures that participants receive training in diverse technical areas, allowing them to acquire skills that are in high demand in today’s digital economy. This not only benefits the individuals involved but also bolsters Nigeria’s position as a hub for skilled technical professionals.
In summary, the 3 Million Technical Talent program has made remarkable progress with over 1 million applications received and substantial support from both the private sector and the government. This program represents a crucial step towards building a strong technical talent base in Nigeria and fostering the nation’s digital economy. As the program continues to evolve, it promises to empower individuals with valuable technical skills while positioning Nigeria as a global leader in the field.
