The Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with Tantita Security Services, the military, and other security agencies, has arrested 40 individuals and confiscated two vessels involved in illegal activities at the Ogbogoro Oil Field, Brass Area, and Ekeni Area of Southern-Ijaw, Bayelsa State.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the suspects were apprehended and are under investigation for their alleged involvement in economic sabotage and oil theft.
They will be arraigned in court to face charges related to these crimes.
The seized vessels, which were used in the illegal activities, have been confiscated as part of the evidence against the suspects.
Adejobi emphasized that the Nigeria Police Force, along with other security agencies, has intensified efforts to combat illegal oil theft and economic sabotage.
The collaboration with Private Security Contractors (PSCs), such as Tantita Security Services, has been instrumental in these operations.
He further stated that preliminary investigations have revealed the involvement of several individuals and companies, including foreign collaborators, who will be interrogated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The arraignment of suspects involved in one of the vessels is scheduled for February 26, 2024, with a motion for the interim forfeiture of the vessel and its contents to be heard on February 19, 2024.
