Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos said the team would have to “reflect on the mistakes we have made” after Tuesday’s fortunate 1-0 Champions League win over Paris Saint-Germain at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
.
Madrid were outplayed during the first half but still
went to the break 1-0 ahead thanks to a surprise goal
from reserve defender Nacho Fernandez and a string
of misses from PSG frontman Edinson Cavani.
Rafa Benitez’s side were better after the break, and came close to a second through midfielders Isco and Toni Kroos, but former Madrid winger Angel Di Maria was inches away from equalising when he struck a late free kick off the crossbar.
.
Madrid have now qualified for the Champions League knockout stage with two games still to play, are joint- top of the La Liga table, and remain unbeaten in all competitions during 2015-16.
.
However, Blancos centre-back Ramos told Spanish TV channel Antenna 3 that his team — who drew 0-0 in Paris last month — needed to think about the mistakes they had made in the game.
.
“It was not at all comfortable, and it is true that there
were some good things,” Ramos said. “We have a lot
to reflect on.
.
“We played a better game there [in Paris] — you play
better and you take just one point — and here you
play worse and you take all three. Football has this,
and you would always take a win. We must be happy
to be practically qualified and must reflect on the
mistakes we have made.”
.
Madrid also saw in-form left-back Marcelo pick up a
hamstring injury midway through the first half.
.
Ramos said he hoped the latest injury for Madrid,
who have seen 12 different players miss games over
the last month, would not prove too serious.
.
“That is the worst news — [Marcelo] was in his best
form,” he said. “We hope it is nothing, and that he is
OK to play for Brazil and for the Clasico [against
Barcelona on Nov. 21]. Hopefully we can empty the
treatment room. We are not stopping.”
