Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has praised the sacrifices of the mothers in Nigeria.
He said they have been responsible for uplifting Nigeria since they switch between responsibilities in their several homes and workplaces to keep the family together, which ensures a stable country.
He revealed this in a commemoration of Mothers’ Day celebrated today, noting that the Violence Against Persons (VAP) Prohibition law in the state he governs will safeguard mothers, women, children and every other person in the society.
His words, “As we mark Mothers’ Day across the world, I join in celebrating the contribution of mothers and women to societal development. This is imperative because women have shown to be custodians of intricate strings and responsibilities that hold society together and their masterful management of their roles have ensured that we have a thriving society.”
“In particular, in Edo state, we have worked with relevant stakeholders to ensure that mothers and women are well catered for. The VAP Prohibition law, which protects the vulnerable from abuse, will provide for legal redress for mothers and women, children, among others. We are also confident that the law would serve as deterrent to persons who abuse these people.”
“Aside initiatives like the Edo Healthcare Improvement Programme (Edo-HIP), we have the neonatal care center at the Stella Obasanjo Specialist Hospital that caters to infants and their mothers.”
