FG sets agenda on uninterrupted power in Abuja, says distribution companies must lead campaign

The Minister of Power, Chinedu Nebo has directed the new management of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company to speedily implement the targeted 24 hour un-interrupted power distribution plan to enable replication in other major cities across the country.
 
Chinedu Nebo also enjoined the new team to brace up to the challenge by ensuring optimum use of old and new facilities, in order to improve the quality and quantity of electricity available to users in the Federal Capital Territory.
 
In his speech at the commissioning of a two-type x 15MVA substation recently, being one of the many National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) injection sub-stations built by the Niger Delta Holding Company across the country, the Minister said that the insight in  the project marks the action plan to in the long-term, banish darkness from Nigeria.
 
He assured Nigerians that the Transformation Agenda is on course as there has never been a regime more committed to the power sector than that of President Goodluck Jonathan. He added that the fact is underscored by the huge magnitude of power projects commissioned across the electricity supply value – chain of generation, transmission and distribution.
 
The Minister lauded the contributions made by the other two tiers of Government as stakeholders in the Niger Delta Power Holding Company, adding that without their support, the gains recorded so far in the privatisation efforts would not have been possible. He said that the vision of the President towards providing quantity and quality power would be enhanced by this project; assuring Nigerians that everyone in the sector has keyed into the President’s commitment to serving Nigerians.
 
Also speaking at the occasion, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Power & Steel, Philip Aduda commended the giant strides of President Jonathan in the power sector, saying the new sub-station will greatly enhance evacuation of power to various distribution networks in the FCT.
 
The Managing Director of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company, James Olotu in his observations averred that the project being commissioned will strengthen the distribution aspect of the electricity value chain. Adding, it would enhance access by customers to stable power as well as assist investors to recoup their money, thereby providing more for re-investment.
 
Remarking, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Power, Godknows Igali assured Nigerians that all the lofty programmes that would positively impact on power will be fully executed. He said that all the power assets being commissioned have confirmed that the journey to uninterrupted power can only be achieved through steady and sustained progress reveres the on-going reform in the power sector.
 
The new power facilities commissioned in the last few weeks include; the Geregu Power Station and the Omotosho Power Station as well as transmission stations in Ibadan and Karu Area of the FCT, among others.
