The Nigerian Senate has rejected President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s plan to restore democratic governance in Niger Republic by a military invasion.
In a letter dated Friday, August 4th, Infostride News reported that Tinubu asked the National Assembly to back ECOWAS resolutions regarding the current situation in Niger Republic.
The Senate met in private for two hours on Saturday, August 5, advising the President against employing military action to remove the coupists from office.

In light of the recent overthrow of the democratic government in Niger Republic, the Nigerian leader, who is also the Chairman of the regional body ECOWAS, was urged by the Senate to take a diplomatic approach to the situation.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio called on Tinubu to further encourage other ECOWAS leaders to develop additional methods to overcome the political impasse in Niger after he and his colleagues announced they would be meeting with the president to discuss their resolution.
Given the historically amicable relationship between Niger and Nigeria, Akpabio said, “The leadership of the senate is mandated to further engage the President and Commander in Chief on behalf of the senate and the national Assembly on how best to resolve the issue.”
