For the sake of fairness and the development of democracy in the country, the Network of Bayelsa Professionals (NBP) has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to refrain from interfering with the governorship election in the state on November 11.
Following reports that President Tinubu has promised full support, including the use of the military, to Timipre Sylva, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the group has appealed to the presidency for neutrality.
Members of the APC in the state were reportedly overjoyed by the President’s promise to do everything in his power to guarantee their candidate, Sylva, wins the election.

After Tinubu and Sylva’s recent meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, a video with some APC state chieftains making the assertion went viral online.
If these allegations are accurate, however, President Tinubu will be subverting democracy and setting the state up for instability, according to a statement released by the Network of Bayelsa Professionals on Sunday.
A representative from the group stated, “Tinubu should realise that he still has a burden hanging around his neck because of his emergence and should not double that burden but use the coming elections to begin to redeem himself.”
So, we’re urging the president to watch out for the people who are trying to use him to foment trouble in the state for their own petty gain.
The people of Bayelsa are not getting ready for a fight, but rather a vote. There need to be more of an emphasis on voting than on gunfire. Toys made of PVC, not AK-47s. Because to the actions of some security personnel in the past, we have suffered the loss of innocent citizens.
They demanded that the election not be used to turn the state into a battlefield, and they urged Tinubu to issue a warning to all the institutions responsible for the election’s conduct to allow the people’s votes to count and “not create tension and unnecessary panic before, during, and after the election.”
