Soludo issues certificates of recognition to Anambra monarchs

Anambra State’s governor, Chukwuma Soludo, presented certificates of appreciation to four of the state’s traditional rulers.

On Saturday, in a private event at the Awka government palace, he presented the certificates to the monarchs.

When handing out the diplomas, he admitted that many unqualified people in different communities had usurped the roles of traditional rulers. He said that from now on, violators would face a minimum prison term of six months if caught.

A release by the press secretary to the governor, Mr Christian Aburime, listed the traditional rulers who received their certificates to include; Igwe Mkpuorah Ngini of Isuaniocha in Awka North Local Government Area, Eze Augustine Nwangwu of Ajali in Orumba North Local Government, Igwe Alexander Azike of Igbo-ukwu, and Igwe Ikechukwu Ezeofor of Umuona, both in Aguata Local Government Area.

In accordance with the laws of their communities, traditional leaders were chosen by the general populace.

It is the law that anyone parading about the state as a king who is not officially recognized by the state government faces six months in prison.

Caretaker committees existed in the majority of Anambra State’s communities up until recently, and they were hurting the interests of many residents.

There have been at least 110 elections in villages under my administration that used the option A4 system. The law of the traditional kings is fiercely enforced in Anambra State. He warned that anyone acting like a traditional monarch even if they were not officially recognized by the state faced a maximum sentence of six months in prison.
