Reports that 21 Labour Party local government chairmen defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, have been refuted by the Labour Party in Kogi State.
The Labour Party’s State Publicity Secretary, Idakwo Emmanuel, addressed reporters on Friday at the party’s state secretariat in Lokoja, saying that the rumor has zero basis in fact and is an act of desperation on the part of the APC.
He noted the disgraceful and lamentable lack of democracy inside the governing party.

He claims that the ruling party is in a desperate position because of the Labour Party’s campaign flag-off in Kogi State, which was attended by presidential candidate and national leader Mr. Peter Obi, as well as National chairman Julius Abure and other NWC members.
As a result of the Labour Party’s decline in Kogi State, the ruling party has resorted to sponsoring anonymous people to spread disinformation as Labour Party local government chairmen.
In a statement, Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn said, “I hereby state without equivocation that the structure of the Labour Party is intact and solidly working hard to rescue our dear state, and our move as a party is organic with genuine supporters and members.”
He urged the press and audience members to ignore anyone who isn’t a member of the Labour Party or who can’t produce an appointment letter proving their position in the party.
