Nyesom Wike, the minister of Nigeria’s federal capital territory (FCT), has denied allegations that he is anti-Islam.
Wike assured the public that his government would not enact any “laws that are against Islamic alignment.”
His Royal Highness, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, the Etsu of Nupe, and other members of the Abuja National Mosque Management Committee were in attendance.

The clergyman claimed that those who intentionally stir up religious passions do so to gain political advantage at the expense of others.
As Wike puts it, “In Nigeria, I have no reason to incite hatred towards any one religious group and instead should support anyone who is fighting for a noble cause.”
While calling on religious leaders to promote national unity and peaceful coexistence, he emphasised that FCT would not hesitate to finance the upkeep of the National Mosque or the National Ecumenical Centre, both of which had been designated as national monuments.
Whether it be a Christian or Muslim National Monument, the government will always step in to ensure its upkeep.
The Etsu Nupe also spoke, imploring the Minister to revive the National Mosque’s long-delayed maintenance project.
