Those who were born and raised in the Ajalli village in the Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State have voiced their outrage at the fact that hoodlums are still enforcing the now-defunct Monday sit-at-home edict.
When asked by the media on Thursday, residents of the village pleaded with the Anambra State Police Command, which is led by CP Aderemi Adeoye, to assist in the arrest of the enforcers.
Comrade Ifeanyi Mathew, a member of the community, spoke to media in Awka and said the following:
“Every Monday we see enforcers who say they are implementing the order given by the Finland-based Biafra agitator, Simon Ekpa.”
“On June 13, the enforcers assaulted a man named Mr. Obinna Nwosu from the nearby community of Ndiokpalaeke in the same local government area. In addition to beating him up, they also wrecked his tricycle. Because of the assault, he continued to suffer from illness till the day he passed away on August 25, 2023.
“Although the police detained three individuals who are claimed to be part of the enforcers, we want the Anambra State Police Command to increase their efforts since these guys are all well known in the community.
The three people who were taken into custody are all residents of this neighbourhood. Chidi Okoro, Ifeanyi Nweke, and Emeka Nwafor were identified as the individuals in question. Ugochukwu Okereke, a person who is suspected of being a participant in the attack, has not been located as of yet.
“This collection of individuals has been committing acts of terror against the Ajalli community. They threaten those people whose homes and businesses they don’t obey with destruction on Mondays if they don’t comply with their demand that everyone in the region stay indoors on Mondays.
Due to the current circumstances, it is no longer safe for anyone in the vicinity to go about their lawful business.
DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, made a pledge to provide further information after being contacted by the media regarding the situation in the community.
However, as of the time that this report was written, he had not done so at all.
