Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has announced a three-day state mourning period in honor of the late Chairman of the South-West Governors’ Forum and former Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
Governor Makinde’s declaration came on Thursday following the announcement of Akeredolu’s passing on Wednesday.
In addition to the mourning period, Governor Makinde ordered that all flags at public offices in Oyo State be flown at half-mast for the duration of the mourning period.

This directive was conveyed in a statement issued by Sulaimon Olanrewaju, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, where he quoted Governor Makinde as saying, “Oyo State governor and vice chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, ‘Seyi Makinde, has declared three days of state mourning for the deceased Chairman of the South-West Governors’ Forum and Ondo State governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.”
Governor Makinde’s announcement underscores the state’s respect and honor for the late Governor Akeredolu, as well as the solemnity of the occasion.
The gesture also reflects the deep ties between neighboring states in the South-West region of Nigeria.
