Honourable Anamero Dekeri, representing Etsako Federal Constituency and a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has officially announced his bid to contest in the Edo State governorship race scheduled for 2024.
At a press conference in Abuja, Dekeri expressed his determination to secure the APC’s governorship ticket for the upcoming election, scheduled for February 17, 2024.
In a scathing critique of Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration, Dekeri accused the current government of failing to deliver the expected dividends of democracy to the people of Edo State.

He highlighted issues such as deteriorating infrastructure, a lack of job opportunities, and the overall poor state of governance under Obaseki’s leadership.
Dekeri also criticized the notion of zoning in the selection of the next governor, arguing that competence should be the primary consideration rather than geographical location.
He emphasized the need for leaders with the requisite skills and competencies to drive the state forward, irrespective of their senatorial district of origin.
Addressing the issue of population distribution and political representation, Dekeri pointed out that the Edo Central senatorial district, which some advocate should produce the next governor, has the smallest voter population.
He advocated for a merit-based selection process, stating that competence should be the overriding factor in choosing the next leader.
In outlining his vision for Edo State, Dekeri emphasized his commitment to fostering progress, prosperity, and pride.
He pledged to prioritize education, skills development for youth, and the revitalization of industries to create employment opportunities and drive economic growth.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set September 21, 2024, as the date for the Edo governorship election, setting the stage for what promises to be a keenly contested race.
