President Bola Tinubu has paid tribute to the late Chief Frank Kokori, former Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), who was laid to rest on Friday in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State.
Represented by the Minister of State for Petroleum, Heineken Lokpobri, President Tinubu described Kokori as one of Nigeria’s foremost nationalists.
Tinubu praised Kokori’s courage and selflessness, noting that he always prioritized Nigeria’s interests over personal gain.

He commended Kokori for his integrity and democratic values, highlighting his role in the fight against military rule in Nigeria.
Speaking to Kokori’s family, Tinubu emphasized the importance of the late activist’s legacy, urging his children to continue his work and uphold his values.
He praised Kokori’s contributions to Nigeria, stating that his impact on the country’s history is unparalleled.
In a sermon at the funeral, the Bishop of Warri Diocese, Rt. Revd. Christian Ide, spoke about the importance of hope in difficult times, drawing inspiration from the Bible.
He praised Kokori as a devoted Christian and commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his support despite political differences.
Dignitaries at the funeral included Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Senator Ede Dafinone, and Chief Great Ogboru.
Chief Frank Kokori, who served as Secretary General of NUPENG, played a crucial role in advocating for the recognition of Chief MKO Abiola as the winner of the June 12, 1993 Presidential election.
