Mr. Callistus Uju Okafor, a chieftain of the Labour Party (LP) and former Deputy National Chairman of the party, has attributed the crisis in the party to the national chairman, Barr Julius Abure, and the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
In an interview with journalists, Okafor expressed concern over the exclusion of key stakeholders, including himself and groups such as the Trade Union Congress (TUC), from crucial meetings aimed at reconciling the party.
He stated, “The leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Abure faction were the causes of the crisis in our party.

We and some stakeholders had, in the interest of peace, called for a true and thorough reconciliation within the party, but certain persons were not interested in peace.”
Okafor lamented the lack of inclusivity in meetings aimed at resolving the crisis, criticizing Abure for organizing a “fake convention” that deviated from court rulings calling for an enlarged convention.
He emphasized his commitment to the party’s interests and expressed disappointment that his efforts for reconciliation had not been reciprocated.
