Segun Sowunmi, former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, has called for a complete overhaul of the party to ensure stability in future elections in the country.
Speaking at a media briefing organized by the Ogun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Sowunmi expressed concern over the PDP’s recent electoral losses in three consecutive governorship elections in Ogun State.
He emphasized the urgent need for the party to restructure its internal workings for optimal capacity and efficiency, suggesting a revisit of its core values and ideology to restore its lost glory.

Sowunmi highlighted the PDP’s role as a formidable opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), providing credible alternative policy options to the present administration.
He also announced his intention to run for the National Chairmanship position of the party.
The call for an overhaul comes amid the suspension of the party’s former National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, with the North-Central caucus advocating for the zone’s constitutional right to complete its four-year tenure, ending in October 2025.
