Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, has criticized a recent verdict by Senator Magnus Abe regarding the status of 27 stranded Rivers lawmakers.
Eze described Abe’s comments as indicative of his role as a “perverse political hireling.”
Eze, a former national spokesman for the New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP), also remarked that the wave of resignations in Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s cabinet is a necessary step for a renaissance in the current administration.

Eze condemned Abe’s distorted interpretation of the Constitution concerning the 27 pro-Wike lawmakers who defected and thus vacated their seats in the Rivers State House of Assembly, to which they were elected in early 2023.
Abe had recently claimed that during his tenure as Senator, he and eleven others defected without facing any consequences.
In a statement to the media, Eze criticized Abe’s comparison of the current situation to the 2014 crisis within the PDP, which led to the formation of the nPDP and its eventual merger with the APC.
Eze argued that the crisis preceding the 2015 elections was of a different magnitude, involving significant public discourse and resulting in a split that gave birth to the nPDP.
Eze recounted that during the crisis, six governors, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other key PDP stakeholders, left the party to form a parallel congress.
This move led to the creation of the nPDP, with Abubakar Baraje as National Chairman and Olagunsoye Oyinlola as National Secretary.
Eze criticized Abe for attempting to draw a parallel between the 2014 defections and the current situation, suggesting that Abe’s motives are driven by a desire for a federal appointment.
Eze emphasized that the circumstances of the former Rivers lawmakers differ significantly from those cited by Abe, particularly in light of Section 109(1)(g) of the Nigerian Constitution.
Regarding the recent resignations in Governor Fubara’s cabinet, Eze stated that the departure of these “moles” was overdue and necessary for the injection of fresh blood into the administration.
He added that their voluntary exit was preferable to a forced removal.
Eze also warned Senator Abe against involving former Governor Rotimi Amaechi in his political maneuverings.
He urged Minister Nyesom Wike to consider recommending Abe for a federal appointment to help redeem his political career.
