In a proactive effort to minimize its impact on the marine environment, Bonny Gas Transport Limited (BGT), a subsidiary of Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG), has embarked on a strategic initiative to diversify and reduce its carbon footprint.
This move entails chartering a new build vessel named AKTORAS, marking a significant milestone in BGT’s shipping portfolio.
Established in 1989, BGT plays a pivotal role in providing shipping capacity to NLNG’s operations, cementing NLNG’s position as a key LNG supplier globally. The addition of AKTORAS, leased under a Bareboat Charter arrangement from Capital Gas Limited, signifies a crucial expansion of BGT’s fleet.

AKTORAS is equipped with advanced MEGA propulsion systems designed to lower emissions and enhance efficiency. It boasts a capacity of 174,000 m3, with dimensions including a length of 299.6 meters, a breadth (moulded) of 46.40 meters, and a deadweight of 81,194 tons.
During the Christening ceremony held at the Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard in Mokpo, South Korea, Mrs. Olu Verheijen, Special Adviser to the Nigerian President on Energy, emphasized the vessel’s role in representing Nigeria on the global stage.
Verheijen articulated, “This ceremony embodies Bonny Gas Transport Limited and Nigeria LNG Limited’s unwavering commitment to adapting and excelling in the evolving global energy landscape. Their proactive approach to futureproofing their operations underscores the importance of maintaining competitiveness in the dynamic LNG market.”
She continued, “By replacing aging steamships with this newly constructed vessel, BGT and NLNG are enhancing their capacity to meet the increasing demands of the LNG market. This milestone reflects Nigeria’s ambition to emerge as a leading economic force in Africa and beyond, demonstrating our commitment to sustainable development and prosperity.”
Verheijen concluded by assuring stakeholders of Nigeria’s steadfast dedication to fostering mutually beneficial partnerships and driving progress in the LNG sector.
