Kogi state political activist Usman Okai Austin has criticized the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for its delay in prosecuting former Governor Yahaya Bello.
Okai emphasized the need for the EFCC to uphold its integrity, asserting that public trust is at stake.
Okai accused Bello of using media manipulation to intimidate influential figures, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and to discredit the anti-graft agency.

He insisted that the public would not tolerate any leniency from the EFCC, which had previously shown determination to prosecute Bello.
“The EFCC must not yield to political pressure or media campaigns, as doing so would be a betrayal of public trust,” Okai stated.
He recalled the EFCC chairman’s promise to resign if Bello was not prosecuted, highlighting that the agency has not enforced the existing arrest warrant despite knowing Bello’s whereabouts.
Okai noted that Nigerians, especially those from Kogi State, are eagerly anticipating the EFCC’s actions in the case against the former governor.
He urged the EFCC to resist media blackmail and political pressure to ensure justice is served.
“Anything less would undermine the fight against corruption and betray public trust,” Okai warned.
