The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has announced Mr. Moshood Olayide-Abas as the Acting Chairman of the party, following the death of the former chairman, Isaac Omodewu.
Olayide-Abas, who previously served as the Deputy State Chairman, was appointed to fill the leadership vacancy on Monday.
In a statement issued by the Oyo APC Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, the party confirmed that Olayide-Abas’ elevation to the role of Acting Chairman was ratified by the State Executive Committee (SEC) during an emergency meeting held in Ibadan.

“Following the transition of our former state chairman, the Constitution of our great party has placed on us the onus to fill the vacuum by elevating the Deputy State Chairman to the post of Acting Chairman, and this is exactly what the SEC has done,” the statement read.
Olayide-Abas, a seasoned politician and certified pharmacist, has a long history with the Progressives.
He began his political career in the 1970s with the defunct Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) and was mentored by the late Chief Bola Ige. In 1991, he became the Executive Chairman of the old Ifeloju Local Government Area (now split into Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North LGAs).
His track record includes serving as Chairman of the Oyo State Hospital Management Board during the first term of the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
He also held various party positions at the state level between 2004 and 2009 under the defunct Action Congress (AC) and later Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).
Olayide-Abas, along with the late Omodewu and other members of the APC State Executive Committee, was elected during the party’s last state congress in October 2021.
The Oyo State APC’s leadership expressed confidence in Olayide-Abas’ ability to guide the party through this transition, highlighting his extensive experience and commitment to the party’s values.
His appointment comes at a crucial time for the APC in Oyo State as it navigates leadership changes and prepares for future political contests.
