Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has condemned the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state for establishing a shadow government, describing the move as a treasonous act.
Speaking during a meeting with leaders of workers’ unions in the state, Otti vowed to pursue legal action against the opposition party within the boundaries of the law.
He criticized the PDP’s decision as baseless and a display of ignorance regarding Nigeria’s political structure.

The PDP in Abia State recently announced the formation of a shadow government, appointing a speaker and shadow commissioners, claiming it was aimed at holding the ruling administration accountable.
In his response, Otti argued that Nigeria’s presidential system does not accommodate the concept of a shadow government.
He revealed that the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ikechukwu Uwanna, had been instructed to address the issue legally.
“There’s nothing like a shadow government in a presidential democracy.
The problem people have is ignorance, and they refuse to be educated. Shadow governments only exist in parliamentary democracies.
“What they have set up is, in essence, a government in exile, and since it is not recognised by law, it is treasonable,” Otti stated.
The development has sparked political tensions in the state as the Otti administration seeks to maintain its focus on governance amidst opposition criticism.
