A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has called on President Bola Tinubu to investigate the frequent collapses of the national power grid.
Speaking with journalists in Osogbo on Sunday, Oyintiloye, a former lawmaker, described the situation as worrisome, noting that the grid’s collapse on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, marked the 12th incident since January.
He emphasized the critical role of electricity in driving economic growth, adding that the repeated grid failures are negatively affecting businesses across the country.

“The collapse of the national grid 12 times within a year indicates that something is seriously wrong,” Oyintiloye said.
“A presidential investigation into this matter will not only identify the underlying issues but also provide lasting solutions.”
He further questioned why a country endowed with abundant resources continues to experience such power failures.
“The embarrassment must stop, and sanity must be restored to the power sector for the sake of our economy.
If acts of sabotage are involved, a thorough investigation will uncover them,” he added.
Oyintiloye urged President Tinubu to ensure that those found culpable of undermining efforts to stabilize power supply are held accountable.
He also called on the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, to strengthen oversight and ensure that grid maintenance teams fulfill their responsibilities.
“Nigerians are already paying high electricity tariffs and deserve to enjoy consistent power supply. It is only fair that the services match the payments,” he said.
The APC chieftain reiterated the importance of addressing the issue urgently to restore confidence in the power sector and support the country’s economic growth.
