The Edwin Woko-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has criticized the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, over his recent remarks about the APC’s ambition to win the Rivers State governorship election in 2027.
Ganduje, during the inauguration of the Tony Okocha-led APC state executive in Port Harcourt on Saturday, declared that capturing the Rivers State Government House was a top priority for the APC in the upcoming election cycle.
In a swift response, Edwin Woko rejected Ganduje’s comments, asserting that “there is no vacancy in Rivers State in 2027.”

He said: “The good people of Rivers State will leave no stone unturned to ensure that Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s second-term bid will be unhindered.”
Woko also accused Ganduje and the APC of pursuing anti-people policies, stating: “The people of Rivers State have rejected the APC and will continue to reject its unfriendly policies.”
He added that despite challenges within the PDP, Governor Fubara would contest the 2027 election on the PDP platform.
Woko accused APC agents of attempting to destabilize the PDP but assured that “these APC polyandrous agents will soon become a thing of the past.”
Woko further criticized Ganduje’s rhetoric, warning: “The rape of democracy that occurred during the last gubernatorial election in Edo State cannot be replicated in Rivers State.
Elections must be won through voting, not by capturing or manipulating votes through faceless security agents or other means APC may employ.”
Edwin Woko emerged as a factional chairman of the PDP in Rivers State following the expiration of the tenure of the Aaron Chukwuemeka-led state executives.
In an interview with Newsmen, Woko claimed that PDP stakeholders in Rivers State inaugurated an interim leadership structure on September 28, with him at the helm. Along with Erien Naikachep Maurice, Nelson Ndubuisi, and Nyebuchi Dike, Woko has filed a lawsuit against Chukwuemeka, his executive committee, the PDP National Chairman, and others.
Woko’s faction alleges that the congress that produced Chukwuemeka and his executives in July 2024 violated a court order and is, therefore, illegal.
