An Abuja High Court on Monday ordered the Department of State Services (DSS) to release Alhaji Bello Bodejo, President of the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, from detention.
Justice Mohammed Zubairu, delivering the ruling, described Bodejo’s detention since his arrest on December 9, without being charged to court, as unlawful.
The order followed a habeas corpus application moved by Bodejo’s lawyer, Reuben Atabo (SAN), against the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and the Director-General of the DSS, listed as 1st and 2nd respondents.

Justice Zubairu held that the application was meritorious, noting that it was unchallenged by the respondents.
“The applicant is hereby released from the 2nd respondent’s detention,” the judge ruled.
However, Justice Zubairu clarified that the release of Bodejo does not amount to an acquittal. He directed Atabo to ensure Bodejo’s availability should the respondents decide to file charges against him.
The judge also cautioned the respondents against detaining Bodejo beyond constitutional limits, emphasizing adherence to the rule of law.
