The Chairman of the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC), Joseph Aremo, has expressed disappointment over the low voter turnout during Saturday’s local government election in the state.
Describing the turnout as unencouraging, Aremo urged political parties to intensify efforts to educate and mobilize the electorate ahead of future elections.
Speaking after monitoring the electoral process in Akure South, Akure North, and Ifedore local government areas, Aremo disclosed that the commission took proactive measures to ensure a smooth election.

“We ensured the prompt and early deployment of both sensitive and non-sensitive materials to avoid any logistical issues.
However, despite our efforts, the voter turnout was still below expectations,” he said.
In a related development, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Wilfred Afolabi, who also monitored the exercise within the Akure metropolis, commended the peaceful conduct of residents during the polls.
The ODIEC Chairman reiterated the need for increased voter sensitization, emphasizing that greater awareness by political parties could significantly boost participation in future elections.
