Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested a 38-year-old man, Iyayi Omokaro, for allegedly killing his elder brother, Friday Omokaro, during a dispute.
The command’s spokesperson, Moses Joel Yamu, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Thursday, revealing that the incident occurred on March 25 in Uzalla Community.
“On 25/03/2025 at about 15:30 hours, a report was received from a camp in Uzalla Community about the killing of one Friday Omokaro, 38 years old,” the statement read.
Yamu disclosed that a team of Ahor Police operatives and vigilantes responded to the scene, recovered the victim, and took him to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead. The murder weapon, a cutlass, was also recovered.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased and his brother, Iyayi Omokaro, 34 years old, had a misunderstanding that escalated into a fight. In the process, Iyayi used a cutlass to hack his elder brother to death,” Yamu stated.
He further disclosed that the suspect has been taken into custody and has confessed to the crime. Iyayi is expected to be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
