The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two suspects in connection with a case of criminal conspiracy and car theft.
The suspects, identified as 30-year-old Ibrahim Uzeru from Kashere Santuraki in Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State, and 35-year-old John Paul from the Bayan Gari area of Bauchi State, were apprehended after a stolen vehicle was traced to their possession.
Spokesperson of the Command, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, disclosed in a statement that the arrest followed a complaint lodged by one Yahaya Haruna, a 41-year-old resident of Gidan Gona, Bauchi, on March 29, 2025.
Haruna reported that he had parked his green 2000 model Honda Civic with registration number ALK-627-GG at Yelwan Tudu Market around 6:00 p.m., only to return and find the vehicle missing.
Following the report, detectives launched an investigation and eventually intercepted the stolen vehicle along the Maiduguri bypass, near the Awala roundabout, with the two suspects on board.
“During questioning, the suspects were unable to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding ownership of the vehicle, leading to their arrest,” CSP Wakil stated.
Further investigation revealed that Uzeru claimed he received the vehicle from his employer and recruited Paul to accompany him to Durum, where they planned to deliver it to an unidentified recipient.
He also confessed to promising Paul a N20,000 reward for his participation.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori, has directed that the suspects be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
