Leaders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-West geopolitical zone have elected new zonal executives to steer the affairs of the party for the next four years.
The zonal congress, which had delegates from Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ogun, Ondo, and Lagos States, was held on Wednesday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The event was attended by key party stakeholders, including Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and his Osun State counterpart, Senator Ademola Adeleke, alongside other party leaders and members from across the region.

The congress saw the re-election of Alhaji Kamorudeen Ajisafe as the PDP National Vice Chairman (South-West). Other officials returned to their positions include Obagunwa Muyiwa (Zonal Secretary), Alhaja Bosede Adedibu (Zonal Woman Leader), Adeyemo Adetunji (Zonal Treasurer), Yaya Adeleke (Zonal Financial Secretary), and Atofarati Olusanya (Zonal Publicity Secretary), among others.
In his acceptance speech, Ajisafe expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to uphold the party’s constitution and principles.
“I promise not to act contrary to the rules and regulations of our great party,” he said.
Governor Makinde, in his remarks, commended the peaceful conduct of the zonal congress, describing it as a model of internal democracy and a sign of what to expect at the PDP National Convention later this year.
“This elective congress is basically a funfair for us; it is for us to show the way democracy should be practised in Nigeria. So, South-West is leading the way,” Makinde stated.
“We are about to witness a rancour-free elective congress. All the people who are supposed to be here are here. INEC is here observing what we are doing and the security agents are here. This is democracy at its peak.
“This is a foundation we are about to lay, and I believe this would also show the way towards what the PDP will do at the National Convention.”
