No fewer than 216 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) have officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gagarawa Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The mass defection took place during a “Citizens and Government Engagement Forum” held at the Gagarawa Local Government headquarters.
The event was graced by the presence of Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, along with other top government officials.

The forum, according to Governor Namadi, was designed to bridge the gap between the government and the people by providing a platform for citizens to learn about the administration’s achievements over the last two years and to express their needs and concerns directly to the government.
Governor Namadi emphasized that the initiative is inclusive, welcoming all citizens irrespective of political affiliation.
He reiterated his administration’s openness to constructive criticism and its commitment to improving the quality of life in Jigawa State.
“We are building a government that listens and responds.
This forum is not about politics but about people. We want to ensure that every voice is heard and every legitimate concern addressed,” Namadi stated.
During the forum, six commissioners presented a rundown of key projects executed under Namadi’s administration in Gagarawa, including road construction, youth and women empowerment programmes, employment creation, scholarship distribution, and the renovation of health and educational facilities.
Notably, the Gagarawa General Hospital has now been fully renovated and is ready for commissioning.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Malam Habibu Dangodo presented their membership list to the APC State Chairman, Hon. Aminu Sani Gumel. Dangodo said their decision to join the APC was driven by Governor Namadi’s exemplary leadership and developmental strides across the state.
“Governor Namadi’s leadership has convinced us that the APC truly means well for Gagarawa and Jigawa State at large.
We are inspired to join hands in building a modern, prosperous, and greater Jigawa,” Dangodo declared.
The defection marks a significant boost for the APC in Jigawa as the party continues to consolidate its grassroots support ahead of future elections.
