The Labour Party (LP) has announced the indefinite suspension of key political figures including Abia State Governor Alex Otti, Senator Ireti Kingibe, Senator Darlington Nwokocha, Hon. Victor Afam Ogene, Hon. Amobi Ogah, and Hon. Seyi Sowunmi over allegations of anti-party activities.
The decision followed the submission of a report by a five-man Disciplinary Committee constituted by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) on May 2, 2025.
The panel, led by Deputy National Chairman Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi and supported by National Secretary Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim and three others, was tasked with probing allegations of anti-party conduct against Governor Otti and other members.

According to a statement released on Wednesday by Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, the party’s National Secretary, the Disciplinary Committee concluded its assignment and presented its findings to the NEC. After deliberations held on May 7, the party’s leadership ratified the committee’s recommendations.
“Consequent upon that, the following members of the party have been suspended from the party and all its activities, indefinitely and with immediate effect: Dr. Alex Otti, Senator Ireti Kingibe, Senator Darlington Nwokocha, Hon. Victor Afam Ogene, Hon. Amobi Ogah, and Hon. Seyi Sowunmi,” the statement read.
The LP stressed that the suspended individuals are no longer authorized to represent or act on behalf of the party.
The statement further urged relevant institutions including the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, the National Assembly, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and security agencies to take note of the development.
Nenadi Usman Not a Party Member — LP
In a related development, the party clarified that former Minister Nenadi Usman, whose name was speculated to be among those under investigation, is not a member of the Labour Party.
“It will surprise Nigerians and party faithful that the name of one Nenadi Usman was conspicuously omitted from the list of suspended members.
First, we have said repeatedly that the said Nenadi Usman was and is not a member of the Labour Party,” the statement noted.
The party alleged that Usman, who recently pledged allegiance to another political party alongside a former Kaduna State governor, lacks the moral standing to criticize corruption, given her alleged past with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
“Ms. Usman should come out and explain to Nigerians the story behind her plea bargain with EFCC and the properties she allegedly forfeited,” the statement added, accusing her of lacking the integrity to speak on corruption.
No Coalition or Merger Plans — LP
Reiterating its political stance, the Labour Party firmly rejected any talk of coalition or merger ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“The party is not interested in any overtures by any group or persons to go into any coalition or merger.
The proponents of such arrangements lack the character and competence to manage a political alliance,” the statement emphasized.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to contesting the 2027 elections as an independent political entity.
“The Labour Party intends to prosecute the 2027 general election as a stand-alone party and no further discussion will be entertained on this matter,” it concluded.
