The Heavy Duty Vehicle Division of the Lagos State Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS), in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has impounded 28 trucks for failing to meet required safety standards.
The trucks were seized during a recent joint enforcement operation aimed at improving road safety and regulatory compliance among heavy-duty vehicles operating in Lagos.
This was disclosed in a statement on Wednesday by Mrs. Bolanle Ogunlola, Deputy Director of Public Affairs at the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation.
According to the statement, the impounded vehicles were found with multiple infractions, including broken headlamps, faulty rear lights, worn-out tyres, and missing or incomplete wheel nuts.
Ogunlola also noted that several truck drivers failed to present valid driver’s licences and the mandatory recertification cards issued by the Lagos State Drivers’ Institute (LASDRI).
“The operation was a routine exercise targeted at ensuring that heavy-duty vehicles comply with all safety and regulatory requirements in the state,” she said.
She reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to enforcing safety regulations to protect lives and prevent avoidable accidents on the roads.
