Prince Adewole Adebayo, leader of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has urged President Bola Tinubu to prioritize addressing the growing discontent among Nigerians rather than being preoccupied with emerging political coalitions ahead of the 2027 general election.
Speaking in an interview with journalists, Adebayo said that while the president may be politically savvy, the real threat to his leadership lies in the frustrations of ordinary Nigerians—not in opposition alliances.
“President Tinubu is experienced enough to know that the coalition is not the problem. He knows the people in that coalition—they are his friends,” Adebayo said.

“There are thousands of pictures of them together. The coalition is not what has been putting up billboards and posters all over—it’s the hardship that the people are facing.”
He criticized the president for allegedly focusing more on political calculations for 2027 than on delivering effective governance, accusing Tinubu of running a presidency without a functional administration.
“If we are to be fair, we shouldn’t even call this the Tinubu administration—just call it the Tinubu presidency. There’s no real administration going on,” he said. “What we have is an imperial presidency. Their eyes are not on the ground, and they haven’t built a working structure for governance.”
Adebayo also faulted Tinubu’s economic management, particularly the administration’s inability to produce meaningful budgets.
“They’ve presented two budgets so far, and neither has tackled the country’s problems. In fact, the second budget is worse than the first,” he stated.
“They have no grip on economic realities. They’re not addressing employment. The main tool to fight poverty is jobs, and they don’t seem to understand that.”
He advised the Tinubu-led government to refocus its energy on practical governance and meeting the needs of Nigerians rather than being distracted by political maneuvering and coalition threats.
