A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Katsina State has unveiled plans to dump the party and join forces with other political groups to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
Leader of the faction and former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Mustapha Inuwa, made this known during a meeting with party members and supporters in Katsina on Sunday.
Inuwa explained that the decision was aimed at ending APC’s dominance at both the state and federal levels by forming a new, formidable political alliance.
“The coalition is working nationally with political heavyweights to form a solid, viable, and dependable platform capable of challenging the APC,” Inuwa said.
He assured that a final decision on the new political platform would be made by the end of June after consultations with the movement’s leadership across the country.
The former SSG urged his supporters to remain patient and steadfast while praying for the success of the initiative and the progress of Nigeria.
He also extended an invitation to all progressive-minded Nigerians, irrespective of their current political affiliations, to join the movement in pursuit of shared national goals.
“Once we decide on the platform, we’ll reconvene here and follow the template provided by the national leadership for local implementation,” he said.
Inuwa dismissed fears over defections to the APC, describing such moves as futile.
“Leaving the PDP for the APC is like jumping from the frying pan into the fire. Both parties have similar internal issues, especially with the conduct of their congresses,” he said.
The factional leader also criticised the conduct of Katsina’s local government elections, alleging that nomination forms were given only to government-backed candidates, a situation he claimed would persist in future elections.
“Our major concern remains the electorate, who are with us. We are with them. God willing, we will succeed,” he assured.
