In Abia State, members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who are loyal to former Minister Uche Ogah have rallied around Donatus Nwankpa’s appointment as the party’s National Welfare Secretary.
Nwankpa, the former State Chairman of Abia APC, was elected as the party’s National Welfare Secretary, contrary to media reports. The announcement was signed by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Offor Okorie, and released in Umuahia.
According to the APC’s response to the statement attributed to the Kingsley Ononogbu -led APC faction, the persons who are responsible for the discord in the Abia APC are behind the rejection of Donatus Nwankpa.
The Publicity Secretary said that electing Donatus Nwankpa was the best thing that could have happened to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia, and that those who have been whipping up opposition to him are against the APC’s expansion into the state.
He gave tribute to APC stalwarts like Uche Ogah, Senator Nkechi Nwaogu, and others in Abia for the party’s sustained success there.
Because of Donatus’ election as the party’s National Welfare Secretary, there is renewed optimism that the party will unite as a cohesive whole, prepared to win elections, rather than being ruled by a single powerful figure.
You may recall that on Wednesday, per the instructions of the National Executive Council, NEC, the National Working Committee expanded its ranks by six new members.
At its most recent meeting, the NEC delegated authority to the NWC to appoint members to open posts on the NWC and at the zonal level.
Okorie has declared anyone or any group that opposes Donatus Nwankpa’s nomination as National Welfare Secretary to be an enemy of the party in the state.
“Abia APC must emerge from the shadows. Those opposing Hon. Donatus Nwankpa’s nomination as party National Welfare secretary are the same folks who can’t win elections in his home state.
They must always work to extinguish the spark that would otherwise illuminate the celebration, something we will never again tolerate.
All true party members in the State recognize that the nomination and election of Hon. Donatus Nwankpa were conducted in accordance with the law.
He said that the Abia APC has recognized Nwankpa as the NWS because of his work as the former Chairman of the Party in Abia, and he urged the Kingsley Ononogbu faction to drop their opposition to Nwankpa.
Okorie urged the party’s Abia leaders to work together for better results at the polls.
After Nwankpa’s confirmation as National Welfare Secretary, the APC’s Uche Ogah faction expressed gratitude to the NWC and promised to work cooperatively with the NWC to make the party stronger in the state.
