The Kaduna State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has refuted claims of mass defections by its members, insisting that the party remains united and focused as it prepares for crucial bye-elections in the state.
In a communiqué issued at the end of an expanded caucus meeting held in Kaduna, the state chairman of the PDP, Edward Percy Masha, dismissed the rumours, maintaining that the party’s membership and leadership structures remain intact.
“The membership of the party is still loyal and committed to the leadership of the PDP,” Masha said. “Our members are not defecting to other parties as claimed.”
The communiqué reiterated the resolve of party stalwarts to work harmoniously to reclaim power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at both the state and federal levels.

The meeting also declared unconditional support for the current national leadership of the PDP, including the Board of Trustees and the PDP Governors’ Forum, commending their efforts to convene a national elective convention aimed at repositioning the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
“The caucus reaffirmed its total commitment to the unity and progress of the PDP and resolved to distance the state chapter and its leaders from baseless rumours suggesting they are planning to dump the party,” the communiqué stated.
The party further expressed backing for any strategic alliances or partnerships that may emerge after the proposed national convention, emphasising that such collaborations would strengthen the PDP’s chances of dislodging the APC from power.
The state chapter also pledged to consolidate its grassroots structures to counter what it described as the APC’s “woeful governance failures” in Kaduna, adding that it would mobilise all stakeholders to secure victory for PDP candidates in the three constituencies where bye-elections are imminent.
The expanded meeting was attended by serving and former lawmakers, local government party chairmen, youth and women leaders, and other key stakeholders from across the three senatorial zones of Kaduna State.
With bye-elections on the horizon, the PDP’s latest move signals its intent to close ranks, resolve internal differences, and present a united front in its bid to reclaim lost political ground from the APC.
