The All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a strong condemnation of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following the latter’s recent criticism of the state burial accorded to the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
In a statement released on Saturday by APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the ruling party described the ADC’s comments as “insensitive,” “unacceptable,” and “politically motivated,” accusing the opposition of exploiting a national moment of mourning for cheap political gains.
Morka said the ADC’s reaction to the state funeral was “as spooky as it is unconscionable,” adding that the party had once again shown “a gross lack of empathy and a deep misunderstanding of customary state practices.”

“The party’s criticism of the dignified state burial accorded the late President is both distasteful and unjustifiable,” the statement read.
He said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu acted within the bounds of both tradition and national duty by honouring his predecessor with a full state burial and standing in solidarity with the bereaved Buhari family.
“What would the ADC have had President Tinubu do?” Morka queried. “Deny the late President Buhari the honour of a befitting state burial? Withhold empathy and support for the bereaved former First Family? As a party that can begrudge the dead, the ADC must surely disdain the living.”
The APC further described the ADC’s labelling of official tributes and funeral gestures as “political exploitation” as a “dishonourable” attempt to sow division at a time when unity is needed.
“President Tinubu demonstrated compassion, patriotism, and leadership by overseeing and participating in the funeral rites of a man who gave so much to our dear nation,” Morka said, while highlighting Buhari’s contributions as a former military Head of State and a two-term democratically elected President.
He called on Nigerians to reject what he termed the ADC’s “brand of desperate opposition politics” and urged the public to remain focused on the values of national unity, respect for the dead, and commitment to progress.
President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away recently, was buried with full state honours, drawing attendance from top government officials, foreign dignitaries, and traditional rulers.
