The Abia State Government has issued a strong warning to civil servants engaging in theft and corrupt practices, urging them to desist immediately or face dire consequences.
The warning was delivered by the Head of Service, Mr Benson Ojeikere, while addressing civil servants in Umuahia.
He emphasised that the present administration is committed to rooting out corruption and restoring integrity to the state’s public service.

To back its stance with action, the state government has released dedicated whistleblowing channels for members of the public and stakeholders to report any unethical conduct. Reports can now be made via telephone on 0802 700 0051 or through email.
Ojeikere lamented that widespread fraudulent practices among public servants have severely tarnished the image of the civil service, eroding public trust and diminishing its professional standing.
“The government will no longer tolerate unethical behaviour that undermines our efforts to reform the public service,” Ojeikere said.
“The time has come for everyone to adopt discipline, dedication, and integrity in the discharge of their duties.”
He further encouraged workers to shift their focus from personal and financial gain to public service delivery, stressing the importance of making sacrifices and embracing a value-driven work ethic.
The Head of Service warned that strict compliance with the government’s operational reforms was non-negotiable, adding that acts of sabotage against policies and programmes would be met with appropriate sanctions.
Ojeikere also called on public servants to embrace a positive mindset and reflect on their roles as agents of development.
He assured that the government remains determined to build a result-oriented and transparent civil service that citizens can be proud of.
The state’s anti-corruption push signals a broader effort to reposition the civil service for efficiency, accountability, and better service delivery in line with Governor Alex Otti’s reform agenda.
