Security Forces Foil Bandit Attacks in Two Katsina Villages

Security operatives in Katsina State have thwarted two coordinated attacks by armed bandits targeting villages in Faskari Local Government Area, following swift responses from law enforcement agencies and community security groups.

This was revealed in a statement issued on Saturday by the spokesperson of the Katsina State Police Command, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu.

According to the statement, the villages of Unguwar Dudu, Yartasha, and Buntu were under imminent threat on Saturday, but timely intervention by the police, in collaboration with the military, the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC), and local vigilantes, successfully averted the planned assaults.

“At about 3:00 p.m., security operatives received intelligence indicating that suspected armed bandits were mobilising to attack Unguwar Dudu village,” the statement read.

“Immediately, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Faskari mobilised a joint response team made up of police personnel, military troops, community watch members, and vigilante groups.

They stormed the area and halted the bandits before they could execute the attack.”

Barely two hours later, the police said another distress call was received, this time reporting an ongoing attack at Yartasha and Buntu villages in Daudawa Ward.

“The operatives, again acting swiftly and in collaboration with the Nigerian Air Force and other security personnel, engaged the bandits in a gun duel, successfully repelling the attackers and forcing them to flee,” the statement added.

The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Bello Shehu, commended the professionalism and promptness of the security teams involved.

He assured residents of the state that the command remains committed to working closely with other security agencies and local stakeholders to ensure continued protection of lives and property.

CP Shehu further appealed to the public to support ongoing security operations by providing timely and credible information to aid proactive intervention.

Katsina State, like several other North-Western states, has witnessed recurring attacks by bandits, prompting intensified efforts by security agencies to restore peace and stability in rural communities.
