The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed August 21 for a supplementary election in five polling units of the Kaura Namoda South State Assembly constituency in Zamfara State.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr Mahmmud Isah, disclosed this during a stakeholders’ meeting in Gusau on Tuesday.
He explained that the election would hold in five polling units in Kyambarawa and Sakajiki registration areas, where results from the August 16 by-election were cancelled due to alleged irregularities.

According to Isah, three polling units in Kyambarawa ward will participate in the supplementary poll.
These include Shiyar Magaji (Kofar Hamza) 002, Tukasu (Sabuwar Kasuwa) 009, and Kofar Fafa (Shiyar Fada).
He added that two polling units in Sakajiki ward will also be affected, namely Alko (Shiyar Kudu) 002 and Shiyar Nufawa (Kofar MD Nuhu) 007.
INEC had earlier declared the August 16 by-election inconclusive after the cancellation of results in the affected polling units.
The Returning Officer, Prof. Lawal Sa’adu of the Federal University, Gusau, explained that 5,446 voters were registered in the two areas, with 3,265 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) already collected.
Announced results prior to the cancellation showed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured 7,001 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) garnered 5,339 votes.
Prof. Sa’adu noted that the margin between the APC and PDP stood at 1,662 votes—less than the 3,265 PVCs collected in the affected polling units.
He clarified that, in line with Sections 24 (2 and 3), 47 (3), and 51 (2) of the Electoral Act 2022, the margin of lead principle made it necessary to declare the election inconclusive and conduct a supplementary poll.
