Former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dan Ulasi, has said that fairness and honesty within the party demand that its 2027 presidential ticket be micro-zoned to the Southeast.
Ulasi made the remark on Friday while speaking on The Morning Show on Arise Television.
He argued that although the PDP had already zoned the presidency to the South, equity requires that the Southeast, which remains the only southern region yet to produce a president in the current democratic dispensation, should take the slot.

“The party has zoned the presidency to the South, and if there is honesty, they should micro-zone it to the Southeast because now, we are the only zone, theoretically speaking, that has not had a presidency in this dispensation, and the Northeast too,” Ulasi said.
When asked about who could emerge as the PDP’s candidate in 2027, Ulasi declined to speculate, stressing that the decision rests with divine providence.
“I’ll answer that question by telling you that only God will answer that question to say whether PDP will have the presidency in 2027. Only God knows who will be alive tomorrow morning,” he said.
The PDP stalwart, however, expressed optimism about the party’s future, pointing to recent efforts aimed at strengthening its structures.
“At the last national executive meeting, almost seven of our governors were there, and it was refreshing that everybody is now discussing how to reorganize the party, put it on a stronger footing for 2027 and other subsequent elections that are coming,” he added.
Ulasi’s comments come amid ongoing moves by party leaders to woo former President Goodluck Jonathan and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, into running on the PDP platform in 2027.
