Security forces in Benue State have stepped up joint operations under Operation Restore Peace, with renewed focus on the volatile Sankara axis.
Reports indicate that during aerial surveillance on September 26, heavily armed bandits were sighted near the Takum boundary between Benue and Taraba States.
Military sources disclosed that plans are underway for a Nigerian Air Force airborne strike to dislodge the armed group.

In a related development, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) chaired a security stakeholders’ meeting at the Katsina-Ala Area Command.
During the session, the Benue State Government pledged support for the families of personnel killed in action during a September 19 operation.
According to sources, the government has approved N500,000 each for burial expenses. Chairmen of the three local governments in the Sankara axis also promised additional support, including intelligence sharing to boost ongoing counter-insurgency efforts.
Security agencies at the meeting reaffirmed their commitment to restoring peace and protecting communities across Benue, stressing that the current operations would be sustained until criminal elements are rooted out.
