MUFC Should’ve Signed Mateta, Not Sesko – Sam Allardyce

Manchester United should have signed Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta over Benjamin Sesko in the summer transfer window, Sam Allardyce has said. He recently had his say while speaking to the press, and fans have been reacting.

According to him, MUFC have completely missed the mark with the Sesko signing, and the money used would have been better spent if it had been invested in a reliable forward like Mateta.

Allardyce added that there are not many centre-forwards as good as Jean, and he should be playing for a bigger club this season.

His words, “Do you know who I’d have bought, more than anybody else? Mateta, absolutely. The centre-forward is absolutely brilliant and why they didn’t buy him, I don’t know, especially when the big strikers are coming back [into fashion].

You look at the size of the lad that Newcastle signed [Nick Woltemade], you look at the size of the centre-forwards again. Mateta is winning in a team and winning the FA Cup and getting to Europe and it took him more than a year to do it. There aren’t many centre-forwards as good as he is. Why did nobody go: ‘Bang!’, Manchester United, because he’s got everything.”

That triumph allowed the club to compete in the European Super Cup for the first time, where United beat European Cup holders Red Star Belgrade 1–0 at Old Trafford. The club appeared in two consecutive League Cup finals in 1991 and 1992 the left and the right, but he’s not got any sense of danger yet, and empties the midfield area too readily.
